Everything Artists Want to Know… from a Film & TV Publisher

In this special March series, I asked music industry professionals to share their advice on what DIY artists need to know before we go knocking on their door. I’ve got no-frills, straightforward insight on various aspects of the music industry from the people that have spent years in it.

Today we hear from TYLER BACON, founder of POSITION MUSIC, a music publishing and film/TV licensing company based in Los Angeles. Since 1999, Tyler has developed artists and producers by connecting their songs to ads, TV shows and films, offering valuable exposure for an artist and, let’s be honest, a decent paycheck. FILL THE WELL with ALVA LEIGH – part two

In this series, I ask other songwriters about their quest for inspiration and how they tackle the day-to-day tasks of writing quality, engaging songs. Behind every good song is a hard-worker. I want to know how songwriters work and how they fill their well so it never goes dry.

london lately: the hunt for good mexican

last night we met my (very cute & pregnant) friend liz and her husband for mexican food. london is kinda a mexican food desert – there is a fancy place that everyone loves, but i just think it’s alright. i don’t want to eat my guacamole on a baked plantain coated in a light dusting of raw chocolate, tossed in a cayenne glaze and topped with a tequila-pickled jalapeño. i want to eat it on a thin salted corn chip. that’s it.

picante took me back to american mexican restaurants… the owner hails from california, his ingredients are hand made, and your plate is full of food. just like america. freedom-sized servings.  i went to town on some enchiladas verdes, mexican rice and black beans last night.

picante is near victoria station and are only open for dinner on wednesday & thursday nights. they don’t have a liquor license so it’s BYOB. there was talk of relocating soon, so watch their facebook for updates.
