deadlines

do you work on deadlines? i find they really help me stay focused and meet my goals. for some they squash creativity, but for me i really thrive in the pressure as long as i plan ahead and give myself enough space to be creative.

i am in the final stages of making plans to return to nashville in may to make my third album. i recorded a few songs before i moved, but i don’t want to release them just yet. i have been writing so much since i moved to london, i feel that some of my best work is starting to surface. at the end of 2012, i set a goal to write a song a week by may 1st. very happy and amazed that i have met my goal so far this year. i think the looming deadline of may has pushed me to put my head down and finish songs. i think i finished 2 songs in 2011. wow. i have finished 7 in 2013. 9 more to go! wish me luck…

spring forecast

sorry for the radio silence this week. i am broadcasting from bed with a nasty cold. it’s starting to warm up the slightest bit here in london… longer light and a handful of blue sky days. if i could sum up my fashion aspirations for spring – this is what they’d look like.

zara statement jacket / black v neck / mango heels / zara leopard cross body bag

other statement jackets that have caught my eye… all under £60

black & white ikat / black & white stripe / mint aztec / oriental floral

what about you? what are your favorite spring trends?

* i just ordered the oriental floral river island jacket. it sold out last week and they just restocked it. get it while it’s hot!

POWER COUPLES – kelly & aron

In honor of Valentine’s Day, I asked some of my favorite couples to share the secrets of their partnership. Both individuals are in a creative field (sometimes the same field!), and find ways to inspire, collaborate and support one another while remaining dedicated to their own endeavors. There is no competition, jealousy or doubt but love and respect.

Let’s read about KELLY BONADIES & ARON WRIGHT, a POWER COUPLE of an artist/designer/architect and singer-songwriter/entrepreneur. For this couple, every project is collaborative, every idea

What kind of creative work do each of you do?

Aron:  Kelly is a maker of almost everything, she is a painter, sculptor, welder, bookbinder, and architect, she’s also recently interested in clothing and shoe design. Her most recent project was designing and overseeing the build out of a 45,000 sq ft building which she filled with studios for other artist/maker type people .
Kelly: Aron is a singer-songwriter and a photographer, he also co-founded a photography software company.  He records, produces and plays all the instruments on most of his recordings.  His most recent project was a song that was in Grey’s Anatomy.

How did y’all meet?

We met on the steps of the girl’s dorm at Lipscomb University, Aron was picking up another girl for a blind date.

Do you ever collaborate creatively? If so, what does that look like? If not, why?

We don’t do much of anything creative or otherwise without talking about it.  We’re pretty much together 24 hours a day and if we’re doing any work that is significant to us, we always get the others opinion- we sort of share a brain at this point.  Kelly made the black cubes, costumes and location in my last music video.  If either of us creates something the other is involved.

How do you support each other in your creative work?

We support each other emotionally, we complement each other and we want the same things so it’s hard to really pin point how we support each other.  I mean, we pretty much excite each other about any idea we have because the other one is thinking the same thing- although when one of us is having a bad day the other is good about reminding why we might be doing some huge project with no concrete benefit that there is in fact some value to it.

What’s your favorite thing to do together?

We love eating together.

What are you doing for Valentine’s Day?!

Roses, red teddy bears, edible pajamas, wine, steak dinner, chocolates all inside a limousine.  Probably nothing really.

Thanks Aron & Kelly! Be sure to check out Aron’s FILL THE WELL interview from last week.
