a blog thanksgiving

vintage printable

i am hosting 8 on thursday for thanksgiving. i love throwing a dinner party, but i am a little out of my element without my wedding china (i was a southern bride after all), my food processor, my cookbooks and an american-standard oven.  first of all, a 9×12 pyrex isn’t sold here, and it wouldn’t fit into my oven even if i had one! it’s like a large microwave…

my kitchen is a tiny galley, so i knew i had to be creative with the menu. i wanted everything to be make-ahead. allison (bff) is coming with her charming fiancé, so i didn’t want to be tied up in the kitchen when all i wanted to do was drink whiskey with her and gossip. as i was wrapping up the final dishes today, i realized that 98% of my dishes came from a blog. i love the internet. i thought i’d share my menu in case any of you are scrambling for a last-minute dish. Continue Reading

london lately: mamma mia

a fun thing to do with your mom in london : high tea & a matinee. my mom had never seen a musical, so it was so fun taking her to see mamma mia (her favorite movie – adorable). you can score some great deals at the theatre websites that offer dinner or tea vouchers. the west end theatres are so beautiful and the show was so fun that everyone got up and danced!

london lately: saturday in highgate

my mom and i did so many fun things while she was here! one saturday we went to the north london vintage market (didn’t do as well as I did last time!) then we took the 134 bus to highgate for some lunch and shopping. at highgate ave & archway rd, you will find quarters cafe – a simple cafe with teas, cakes & asian noodle soups perfect for cold london days.  this quaint cafe is curated with beautiful midcentury furnishings selected from their vintage store next door. i had the malaysian laksa; it was so warming and delicious.

don’t miss souvenir, the quaint shop/gallery a few doors down from quarters featuring illustrations, leather goods, jewelry, & textiles from british designers.
