I’ve been back from America for about 2 weeks, released my new album on Monday (you can buy it here… shameless plug!) so I cleared a day to head to the country. To me, the best way to kick off English summer is a trip to a National Trust house. My friend Milla & I drove out to Sussex and visited the gorgeous Petworth House and spent the afternoon touring the grounds, house and servant’s quarters. We drove into Arundel afterwards to have cream tea and hit some charity shops.
The back entrance to the foyer of the house – I was naturally smitten with the classic wallpaper + rug combo. Reminded me of the wallpaper effect I created in our Nashville apartment with toile fabric.

They have a very impressive collection of JMW Turner paintings – I counted over 20 – and supposedly he was very inspired by Petworth and had painted its landscapes often.
All of these houses have chapels – this one was quite large with a balcony.
You can tour the servant’s quarters and the enormous kitchen that they needed to run a house of this size. There’s like 50k worth of copper pots in there.
It was such a nice day out – it felt like the beginning of summer. I am doing tons of traveling this summer (France! Italy! Scotland! Devon! Whoa!) so I am going to be a better blogger – just for my mom’s sake.
